Program Model

“Service Through STEM” is a comprehensive program offered by YVCHR to support school clubs, blending NEER (Nurture, Educate, Empower, Reflect) Peer Mentoring with hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) challenges. The program connects high school and 5th-grade students through mentorship and service projects designed to create a meaningful impact on the community. Through these engaging activities, students not only build essential STEM skills but also cultivate leadership, social responsibility, and a deeper connection to those around them.

Elevate 2022 - 2023

Our Service Through STEM clubs emphasized uplifting others through encouragement, acts of kindness, and active listening. Each design challenge offered students creative opportunities to explore innovative methods for lifting and moving objects.

Connect 2023 - 2024

Service Through STEM curriculum centered on building connections—with organizations, our community, and one another—while each STEM challenge highlighted unique ways we engage with and contribute to society. Through activities like the paper circuit, prosthetic hand, and boat challenges, students were meaningfully engaged in real-world applications, demonstrating how STEM innovations strengthen our ties to organizations, communities, and each other.

Connect 2024 - 2025

We continued the theme of connection, further fostering near-peer mentoring between high school students and 5th graders. By introducing new excursions like the heart valve challenge, students will explore the importance of interconnectedness, engaging in meaningful activities that strengthen their ties to one another, their communities, and real-world applications of STEM innovations.
