Youth Volunteer Corps provides a variety of service-learning experiences throughout the year that are educational, challenging and rewarding!

Walk for Compassion

On September 11, we remember the heroes we lost and the courage they showed. On September 12, we carry their legacy forward — together, as a community.

Join Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads (YVCHR) and Youth Service America's We Serve to Remember initiative for the Walk for Compassion.

Walkers will take laps around the fountains while youth-led service stations, benefiting local community organizations, line the plaza — turning every lap into a chance to give back. It's a hands-on, uplifting way for our community to reflect, connect, and serve side by side.

Mayor Jones will kick off the event with opening remarks. Walkers will receive a beaded necklace for each completed lap. Laps will be tallied and announced after a group photo at the NN LOVE artwork at 6:00 PM.

Open to local youth (ages 11-18). Bring your family, your friends, your team! Middle and high school students with a registered YDAT account will earn service hours! Look for the YVC check-in table at the Gazebo at Fountain Plaza upon arrival.
