This is the rescheduled project from August 4th
NOTE: If you would like to be a back up pen pal, please email programdirector@yvchr.org.
The Gardens at Warwick Forest and YVCHR are teaming up to match YVC youth with some awesome Gardens residents through our new Pen Pal Project. We have 14 residents excited to meet and communicate with someone new outside of their living facility through old school snail mail. Will you be their new friend? Keep reading for more details!
Required materials: PC, laptop or smartphone with webcam, internet access, stationary, pen/pencil
Youth will need reliable internet access and a webcam in order to participate in the Zoom call. The Zoom link will be provided via email to those who register for the project using the online form.
On August 14th, a couple minutes before 11 am, simply click on the project link from a phone, laptop or PC. If you have never used Zoom, it will ask you to download the software. It will take a couple of minutes, so plan accordingly as we will start promptly at 11:00 am. Youth will need to enable their webcam AND microphone so they can interact during the call. Be sure to test the audio capabilities prior to the project, and consider using headphones to avoid distractions. Make sure to have any other materials on hand for the recipes.
During the call, a Team Leader will facilitate an icebreaker, a service-learning activity about loneliness and the elderly, and then give instructions for the project. Youth will get the opportunity to enrich the life of another while simultaneously having their own lives enriched. Interested youth need to be able to commit to writing to their pen pal at least once a month during the monthly Zoom meetings (dates and times to be determined by those on the roster). Monthly meetings will focus on making goodies for our pen pals or will be centered around a specific topic to write about to our pen pals. Youth will receive mail from their pen pal at least once a month as well. This is a great opportunity for those wanting to serve from home and make a big impact in the life of another.
